Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Life in the UK website and learning service (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. Please read them carefully.

1. Who We Are

Life in the UK is an independent online service that helps users prepare for the UK's Life in the United Kingdom citizenship test. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with the UK Home Office, UK Visas and Immigration, or the publishers of the official handbook.

To contact us, email [email protected].

2. Service Description

We provide practice questions, mock exams, study materials, vocabulary, flashcards, progress tracking, and a study plan generator, with translations in multiple languages. Some features are free; others require a paid plan.

3. Eligibility and Account

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or purchase a paid plan.

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity on your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access.

You may use only one account per person. Sharing accounts is not permitted.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: (a) copy, scrape, or republish our questions, explanations, or translations without written permission; (b) use automated tools to access the Service other than a standard web browser; (c) attempt to circumvent paywalls, usage limits, or security controls; (d) resell or sublicense access; (e) upload or transmit unlawful, harassing, or harmful content; (f) misuse the Service in any way that could damage us or other users.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these rules.

5. Pricing and Payments

Free plan: limited access to a selection of practice questions and one free mock exam.

Monthly plan: £69 billed monthly for full access. You can cancel future billing at any time. The pass guarantee does not apply to the Monthly plan.

Pass Guarantee plan: one-time payment of £189 for permanent access to all current and future content, with the pass guarantee described in section 6.

Pass Guarantee + Legal Consultation plan: one-time payment of £299, which includes everything in the Pass Guarantee plan plus a one-hour private immigration consultation (stated value £200) provided by our partner law firm. Details for booking the consultation are sent by email after purchase.

All prices are in GBP and include any applicable VAT. Payments are processed by Stripe; we do not see or store your full card details.

6. Cancellation and Refunds

Right to cancel (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013): as a UK consumer you have 14 days from purchase to cancel and receive a full refund, provided you have not substantially used the paid Service during that period. By starting to use paid content immediately, you agree we may begin providing the Service before the 14-day period ends, and you lose the right to cancel once it has been fully performed.

7-day no-questions-asked refund (our platform policy): in addition to your statutory rights, we offer a full refund within 7 days of purchase regardless of whether you've used the paid content, no reason required. Apply via the 7-day refund form. If you have already booked the £200 legal consultation, please email [email protected] so we can handle it separately.

Pass guarantee (Pass Guarantee and Pass Guarantee + Legal Consultation plans): if, after sitting the official Life in the UK Test three or more times and not passing, you wish to claim a refund, we will refund the £189 course fee in full. To qualify you must (a) have completed the core preparation on the platform, (b) provide official confirmation of three failed attempts in the account holder's name, and (c) make the claim within six months of purchase. The £200 consultation, where included, is non-refundable once booked or delivered. Submit your claim via the pass-guarantee refund form, or email [email protected].

Monthly plan: you can cancel future billing at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops the next charge; we do not refund the current month. The pass guarantee does not apply to the Monthly plan.

7. Intellectual Property

All content we create — questions, explanations, translations, study guides, designs, and code — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and related rights. You receive a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the Service for your own exam preparation.

The source handbook Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide for New Residents is published under Crown copyright. We reference factual information from it for study purposes under fair dealing and do not claim ownership of that source material.

8. Disclaimer

Our practice questions are based on the official handbook but are not the real test questions. We do not guarantee that any specific question will appear on the exam or that you will pass. The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability where it is unlawful to do so, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.

9. Limitation of Liability

Subject to the previous section, our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) £100.

We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profits, loss of opportunity, or loss of data beyond what we can reasonably restore.

10. Service Availability

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may suspend access for maintenance, updates, or to investigate suspected abuse. Planned maintenance will usually be announced in advance.

11. Termination

You may close your account at any time from settings. We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. If we discontinue a paid Service without fault on your part, we will refund any unused prepaid amount on a fair basis.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. If changes are material we will notify you by email or a prominent notice at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
